Hi! I just joined the community, principally because I'm really lousy at analysing anything... It'd be nice to read what sort of things others can make out of stuff that says little or nothing to me. After three years of trying to analyse poetry I don't think I can become any better than this, but I suppose there's always hope. e.e;Currently I'm in search for new music to listen to, one of the cds I loaned is Matchbox Tewenty's "Yourself or Someone Like You"She say it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat She's always worried about things like that She says it's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault And she only sleeps when it's raining And she screams and her voice is straining [chorus]She says baby It's 3 am I must be lonely When she says baby Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes Says the rain's gonna wash away I believe it She's got a little bit of something, God it's better than nothing And in her color portrait world she believes that she's got it all She swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to And she only sleeps when it's raining And she screams and her voice is straining [chorus]She believes that life is made up of all that you're used to And the clock on the wall has been stuck at three for days, and days She thinks that happiness is a mat that sits on her doorway But outside it's stopped raining About someone who's one of those "eternal pessimists", I suppose, who can't feel satisfied unless something's wrong (usually something's wrong with the whole world). That could be implied by the verse where it says she can only sleep when it's raining. It might be that in her past there really was a reason to be cynical about happier future (it was raining in the metaphorical sense) but in reality things are looking better now, it has stopped raining, but she's still stuck with the old I'm-never-happy-with-the-things-as-they-are -attitude. ...Symbolised by her clock being stuck at three for days.I don't know if I made any sense... Please share your ideas.
That's a matchbox 20 song.
My apologies. "Corona" has obviously impaired my reading ability. I now see that you noted that the lyrics are from Matchbox 20.
